ESU-Bloomsburg Women's Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Shannon Schwilk became the ninth women's basketball player in school history to reach 1,000 points Saturday night, but Bloomsburg's balanced attack proved too much as the Huskies defeated East Stroudsburg University, 57-53, in a Senior night contest at ESU's Koehler Fieldhouse.

Megan LaBuda led three Huskies in double figures with 11 points and Bloomsburg (15-8, 8-2 PSAC) used an 18-3 run midway through the second half to take control of a very competitive contest.

Prior to Bloomsburg's offensive outburst, ESU (11-14, 3-8 PSAC) had never trailed by more than three points. The game featured 13 ties and 15 lead changes before the Huskies took control behind the efforts of Morgan Banks and Karen Bucher. Banks scored all six of her points in the deciding run, and Bucher added five points as the Huskies turned a 37-37 tie into a 55-40 advantage in less than five minutes.

Bucher and Jen Spinelli were the other Huskies in double figures with ten points apiece. ESU's Megan Ross led all scorers with 16 points, and senior Marie Schlegel tallied 12 points and seven rebounds in her final home game.

Schwilk topped the 1,000 point mark at 15:11 of the first half on a layup assisted by Michelle Pilenza. She had scored her 999th point on a free throw for the first points of the game.
