ESU Women's Basketball

CHEYNEY - East Stroudsburg University made 15 of 18 free throws in the second half to defeat Cheyney, 49-46, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division women's basketball game Saturday night.

Behind, 8-6, the Warriors scored nine straight points, two jumpers by Tiffany Barnes and a three-pointer and two free throws by Vanessa Kraft, to take a 15-8 lead. They led at halftime, 25-20.

Cheyney closed within one point three times in the second half, the last at 47-46 with 59 seconds remaining. Free throws by Heather Wolfe with 15 seconds left and Megan Ross with six seconds to go wrapped up the win.

Kraft was ESU's top scorer with 15 points, including 8 of 10 free throws, while Barnes added 12 points and nine rebounds. Shivonne Augustine and Roshaun Tyson led the Wolves with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The win raised the Warriors' record to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference. They will play host to West Chester Monday at 6 p.m. Cheyney fell to 3-17 overall and 0-7 in PSAC play.
