ESU-Slippery Rock Women's Basketball

SLIPPERY ROCK - All five Slippery Rock starters scored in double figures in a 96-60 women's basketball romp over East Stroudsburg University Sunday.

The Rockets, NCAA Division II quarter-finalists last year, raised their record to 4-2. ESU dropped to 1-3 with its next start at home against Shippensburg Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Slippery Rock forward Becky Siembak was the game's top scorer with 21 points, making ten of 12 shots from the floor and one of two free throw attempts. She also pulled down ten rebounds. The 5-10 sophomore was the PSAC Western Division Rookie of the Year last season.

Center Tracy Whitling, a 6-4 senior, added 20 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Guard Jackie Altenweg added 17 points while guard Missy McKavish contributed 12 points and an amazing 12 steals and guard Shelby Wardman ten points.

Siembak's layup gave Slippery Rock a 2-0 lead after 11 seconds. ESU tied the score, but the Rock reeled off six straight points to go ahead for keeps.

The Warriors stayed within striking range, trailing by only 38-31, until the last five minutes of the half when a 15-2 scoring run opened the gap to 20 points at 53-33 by halftime.

Kelly Hutchison led the Warriors with 18 points, including eight of ten foul shots, and nine rebounds. Stephanie Kuhn tallied 12 points and Megan Ross 11.
