ESU-Lincoln Women’s Basketball
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY – Point guard Marie Schlegel fed off a school record-tying 12 assists as the East Stroudsburg University women’s basketball team won its first game by defeating Lincoln, 72-59, Tuesday night.
The Warriors, now 1-2, will open their home season against Southern Connecticut tonight at 7 p.m. in the Koehler Fieldhouse.
Schlegel , a senior from Lebanon, equalled the 12 assists made by Nan Wagner against Slippery Rock in 1986 and Laura Lenio against West Chester in 1988.
The 5-4 senior continually set up teammate and forward Shannon Schwilk, who made nine field goals and finished with a game-high 22 points. Forward Kelly Hutchison added 11 points and center Maggie McLoughlin ten points.
Center Amanda Buss took game rebounding honors with nine while Stephanie Kuhn and McLoughlin each pulled down seven boards.
Guard Tehma Smith led Lincoln with 22 points. Center Lashanda Maxwell added 17 points for the Lions.
