ESU-Shippensburg Women's Basketball
SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion the last four years, took charge early in the game and went on to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 76-55, in women's basketball Tuesday night.
ESU took its only lead of the game, 3-2, on Shannon Schwilk's three-point play. The Red Raiders then reeled off nine straight points, with all five starters scoring, to go in front, 12-3.
They led after ten minutes, 21-9, and had a 39-22 edge at halftime.
The Warriors scored the first five points of the second half, with Amanda Buss getting three of them, to close within 12 points at 39-27. Shippensburg counted with nine straight points, including Julie Sutch's three-pointer, to take a 21-point lead which was the final victory margin.
Forward Christa Cline led the Raiders with 19 points on eight for 11 shooting from the floor. Stephanie Rothery added 13 and Tomaura Woodson 11. ESU had two double-figure scorers in Shannon Schwilk with 11 points and Buss ten.
Shippensburg remained unbeaten at 3-0 while the Warriors fell to 0-2.
