ESU-Le Moyne Women's Basketball
SYRACUSE - Le Moyne took charge in the last ten minutes to down East
Stroudsburg University, 75-58, in a season-opening women's basketball game Friday
night.
The Warriors scored six straight points on Marie Schlegel's two free throws,
Megan Ross' 10-footer and Shannon Schwilk's fast-break basket to take the lead, 52-47,
with 10:35 remaining.
The Dolphins countered with 11 straight points and outscored ESU, 29-6, the
the rest of the way. Tracey Demond put the team ahead, 53-52, on a layup with
9:03 left. Danielle Burt immediately followed with a steal and basket and Erin White
canned a three-pointer for a 56-47 lead with 8:16 to go.
Ross led the ESU attack with 18 points on nine field goals in 18 attempts. Most
of her baskets with jump shots in the 15-foot range. Schwilk added 17 points, making
eight of 13 shots from the floor, mainly on fast break layups, and adding one free throw.
Le Moyne had three double-figure scorers led by Mary Tofani, 16 points and a
game-high 14 rebounds including eight off the offensive boards. Regan Burns
contributed 12 points and White ten.
