ESU-Ohio Valley Women's Basketball

ERIE - East Stroudsburg University scored the last 21 points of the first half and went on to defeat Ohio Valley, 77-49, in the consolation game of the Avalon Women's Basketball Classic at Gannon University Saturday.

Ahead by 21-12, the Warriors held OVC scoreless for the last 7:23 of the half to surge to a 40-12 halftime advantage. The team's defense held the Lady Scots to 3 baskets in 39 shots in the first half for a woeful 9 percent shooting average.

ESU had four players score in double figures with guard Heather Woolf the leader with 14 points on 6 for 10 shooting from the floor. Forward Dana Thompson and center Jesse Wapinsky each tallied 12 points while forward Tiffany Barnes added 10.

The Warriors dominated the boards, 61-37, with Barnes and Vanessa Kraft each pulling down 12 bounds, Thompson 8 and forward Michele Pilenza 7. Guards Megan Ross and Shelly Garlach fed off 6 and 5 assists, respectively.

Ohio Valley had only one consistent player in Elizabeth Lallathin with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The win was ESU's first under new coach Juliene Simpson and evened the team's record at 1-1 with the next start at Le Moyne Tuesday night. OVC is now 0-2
