ESU-Shippensburg Women's Basketball

SHIPPENSBURG - Jessie Gordon scored 20 points and Christen Kelly had 14 points and 14 rebounds as Shippensburg downed East Stroudsburg University, 72-54, in a women's basketball game Saturday.

Gordon, a 6-0 senior center, made 9 of 13 shots from the floor and 2 for 3 free throws. Christan Kelly, a 5-10 junior forward, added seven assists and came close to a triple-double.

Forward Tiffany Barnes led the Warriors with 14 points and nine rebounds while guard Shelly Garlach had 11 points.

Ahead by only 20-19, the Red Raiders scored the last eight points of the first half, five by Emma Lomax, to take a 28-19 halftime lead. They broke it open with an 11-4 run early in the second half, with Jen Scaffidi scoring five of the points, to make it, 48-29, with 11:18 remaining.

Shippensburg, the top-ranked team in the latest NCAA Division II regional poll, raised its record to 9-2. ESU is now 4-6 and will open its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division season at home Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Cheyney.
