ESU-Lock Haven Women's Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Seniors Shannon Schwilk and Marie Schlegel combined for 40 points and 16 assists as East Stroudsburg University downed Lock Haven, 77-64, in women's basketball Tuesday night.

Schwilk scored a season-high 24 points on nine for 20 shooting from the floor and six for eight from the foul line. The 5-9 forward also fed off six assists and had four steals.

Schlegel, the team's point guard, tallied 16 points, also her season's best, capped by a three-point fling from over the halfcourt line at the final buzzer. She was six for 12 on field goals and three for five on foul shots. She also fed off ten assists.

The Warriors had two other double-figure scorers in forward Michele Pilenza with 14 points and center Maggie McLoughlin with ten points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Behind 6-3, ESU ran off 14 straight points to take a 17-6 lead. All five starters scored during the streak with Stephanie Kuhn sinking two free throws to put the team ahead, 7-6, and then immediately scoring from the post after a pass from Schlegel.

The lead was 12 points at halftime at 37-25. Schwilk hit the team's first seven points in the second half and the Warriors later rolled to a 19-point edge at 48-29 with 15 minutes remaining.

Lock Haven rallied down the stretch and made it interesting, closing to without five points at 65-60 with 1:24 left on a three-pointer by Kelly Flint's three-pointer. The Warriors scored 12 points in the final minute, however, with Schwilk banking in two layups to wrap it up.

Flint led the Lady Eagles with 23 points while Stacy Herlocher added 16 and Shawn Boyd ten.

The win lifts the Warriors' record to 5-6 with another home game scheduled against Clarion Saturday at 7 p.m. Lock Haven is now 2-7.
