ESU-Kutztown Women's Basketball

 

KUTZTOWN - Keri Suydam scored a game-high 17 points, Katied Madenford added 15, and Brianne Homyak added 14 as Kutztown University shot 60.4 percent from the field in knocking off East Stroudsburg University, 78-62, Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

The Golden Bears scored the first seven points of the game, including five by Suydam and never allowed ESU to get closer than five points the rest of the way en route to their 12th victory of the season.

Kutztown shot 54.8 percent in the first half as it built a 41-28 halftime lead. The Bears were equally as dangerous in the second half, using a 28-10 run to build their largest lead of the game, 69-38, with 9:12 remaining in the contest. Kutztown hit 15 of its 22 second half shots (68.2 percent) in sending ESU to its third straight PSAC East defeat.

Amanda Buss led the Warriors with 12 points, and Michele Pilenza added 11. Senior guard Shannon Schwilk saw her string of 22 straight games with double figures in points snapped, as she managed just five points on the evening.

The Warriors are now 8-10, 1-4 in the PSAC East and are off until Sunday evening when they travel to face Columbia Union. ESU defeated the Pioneers 74-36 at Koehler Fieldhouse on January 10.
