ESU-Bloomsburg Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg, ranked fifth in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II women's basketball poll, scored the last eight points of the game to finally put away a gallant East Stroudsburg University team, 79-67, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contest Monday night.

The Warriors, now only 5-10, were expected to go down quietly to the 15-1 Huskies, but led in the first half, 30-29, trailed by only a point, 61-60 with 6:00 remaining and were down by only four points, 71-67, with 2:39 left.

Then Bloomsburg's Megan Roe hit a jump shot, Jen Bryan sank four straight free throws and Carrie Pugh connected for a final jumper for the 12-point margin.

Bryan led the Huskies with 23 points, including 11 for 11 from the free throw line, and also grabbed 13 rebounds. BU's Michelle Albanese added 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and Pugh had 13 points.

ESU forward Tiffany Barnes took game scoring honors with a career-high 24 points. She made 10 of 13 shots from the floor and 4 of 6 from the foul line. Center Vanessa Kraft contributed 11 points while guard Heather Wolfe had eight points and four assists.
