ESU-Bloomsburg Women's Basketball

 

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - East Stroudsburg University scored the first six points of the game, but then Bloomsburg took charge with a 17-2 run and went on to a 78-56 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division women's basketball victory Saturday night.

The Warriors came winging out of the gate with a rebound basket by Pam Helt, Steph Kuhn's jumper and Michele Pilenza's shot from the side.

Bloomsburg made three free throws, but didn't have a basket for six minutes until Jen Spinelli hit a jumper to cut the margin to 6-5. Pilenza sank two foul shots before the Huskies ran off 18 straight points with Spinelli, Carrie Pugh and Jen Bryan making five apiece.

That made it, 23-8, and it was over. The halftime difference was 18 points at 37-19 and it stayed around the same level the rest of the game.

Megan LaBuda scored 18 points to lead Bloomsburg while Spinelli added 14, Karen Yeasted 13 and Bryan 11. The Huskies shot 51 percent from the floor (28 for 55).

ESU's Kelly Hutchison took game scoring honors with 19 points, making 5 of 8 shots from the floor and 9 of 14 foul shots. Teammate Pam Helt was the game's leading rebounder with 10 while Steph Kuhn had the most assists with four.

Bloomsburg raised its record to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference. ESU dropped to 3-13 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.
