ESU-Millersville Women's Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Millersville scored the game's first 11 points and

rolled to a 68-52 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division women's basketball victory over East Stroudsburg University Wednesday night.

The Marauders scored their first three baskets on offensive rebounds, two by Sara Burcin and one by Safiyyah Bashir. Paula Keller then scored from inside and Jen Smith pumped in a three-pointer for the quick 11-point lead.

ESU rallied to within one point at 26-25 with 38 seconds left in the first half as Amanda Buss made seven free throws and scored from the paint over a three-minute stretch. But Millersville tallied the last five points of the first half for a 31-25 bulge.

The Marauders then outscored ESU, 13-4, to open the second half and build a 44-29 lead. They later had a nine-point run and were ahead, 57-36, with 6:04 left.

The floor game was the difference as Millersville made 16 steals, five by Bashir and four by Ashley Hoffman, and forced the Warriors into 22 turnovers.

Burcin led the Marauders' attack with 21 points with Hoffman adding 15 and Bashir ten. Buss was ESU's top scorer with 19 points while Shannon Schwilk had 11 and Marie Schlegel ten.

The loss dropped the Warriors to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC. Millersville is now 10-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
