Tom Shaver

Middle Blocker 6-3, 190 Senior

Tunkhannock, Pa. - Chosen as team's outstanding player last season . . . led squad in kills with 214 for an average of 3.29 per game . . . had .294 hitting average . . . made 49 blocks which was second high on the team . . . had season-high 23 kills and hit .500 in 3-1 loss to Juniata . . . had 21 kills with .474 hitting mark in 3-1 win over St. Francis. Three-year player who sat out 1999 season . . . hit .317 as a sophomore . . . quick and explosive player who knows where to put the ball . . . will provide leadership for the squad.

Background: Named Wyoming Valley Conference MVP in 1996 for Tunkhannock High School . . . two-time District 2 All-Star . . . made All-State honorable mention twice . . . also ran cross country . . . majoring in Exercise Physiology.

Jason Hartzel

Outside Hitter 6-0, 150 Senior Souderton, Pa. - Two-year starter returning to team after sitting out last season . . . team leader in digs in both 1998 and 1999 . . . fine all-around athlete who brings experience and skill to the squad . . . solid defensive player . . . jumps well on offense. Made 207 digs for average of 3.0 per game for 1999 team. . . was second on team in kills with 229 or 3.4 per game . . . made 24 kills and 24 digs in 3-2 loss to NYU . . . led 1998 team with 224 digs for average of 2.3 per game . . . had high of 17 digs in match against LIU-Southampton . . . . first on team in kills with 256.

Background: Chosen on All-State first team as outside hitter for Souderton High School . . . helped team to fourth place in PIAA district playoffs and fourth place in state championships . . . also competed in golf . . . majoring in Business Management.

Brian Harvey

Libero 6-1, 155 Senior

Hatfield, Pa. - Excellent defensive player who took over at new position of libero last season . . . does good job of reading hitters . . . is good passer . . . saw reserve action on 1999 team.

Background: Chosen MVP of the North Penn High School volleyball team . . . helped team to district playoffs four straight years . . . top player on soccer team which placed fourth in the PIAA state championships . . . majoring in Movement and Sports Studies.

Chris James

Setter 6-2, 180 Junior

Fayetteville, N.Y. - Consistent setter playing third year on team . . . was starter as freshman and back up last season . . . has good size which is a plus at position . . . puts great effort into getting to the ball.

Background: Two-time All-League first team setter for Fayetteville-Manius High School . . . has played in the Empire State Games five times . . . accompanied 1999 ESU coach Sean Byron to UCLA for NCAA YES Clinic at Final Four . . . majoring in Political Science.

Mike Messinger

Opposite Hitter 6-3, 180 Junior

Chambersburg, Pa. - Returning starter . . . made 150 kills for an average of 2.50 per game . . . had high of 22 kills and hit .444 against St. Francis . . . left hander who provides power from the opposite side . . . good blocker.

Background: All-District player at Chambersburg High School . . . helped team to Mid Penn championships in second year as varsity team . . . will play on a United States team which will travel to Australia in May . . . majoring in Elementary Education.

Dustin Wood

Outside Hitter 6-0, 175 Sophomore

East Petersburg, Pa. - Should move into a starting position at outside hitter . . . considered team's best passer . . . saw reserve action last year . . . had 12 kills and hit .429 in 3-2 win over New Paltz . . . transfer from Ohio State where he was red-shirted on the 1999 team.

Background: Chosen on All-State first team as outside hitter for Hempfield High School . . . also made the All-District and All-League first teams . . . played on three state championship squads . . . made All-League in swimming . . . majoring in Elementary Education.
