ESU Track and Field/PSAC Championships

SHIPPENSBURG - Shavanna Ross gained a second place finish, Quanette Jester placed in two events and Jackie Babbini set a school record for East Stroudsburg University Friday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships.
Ross finished as runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 5-6 1/4. The senior from Center Valley had been sixth last year. The event was won by Marsha Krysiewski of Lock Haven, who also cleared 5-6 1/4, but had fewer misses.
Jester, a senior from Oakland, N.J., finished third in the long jump at 17-8 3/4 and sixth in the high jump at 5-4 1/4. She has now placed in 12 PSAC events over four seasons.
Babbini cracked the ESU record in placing fourth in the heptathlon with 4,266 points. The old mark was 4,121 points by Kelli Strickler in placing second in the conference meet last year.
The sophomore from Cliffside Park, N.J. led the field in the javelin with a throw of 130-1 and was second in the final 800-meter run in 2:27.32.
The Warriors had two other place-winners in Strickler, fifth in the high jump at 5-4 1/4, and Mark Stinson, sixth in the long jump at 22-3 1/4.
The ESU women's team scored 21 points and was in third place behind Lock Haven, 47, and Slippery Rock, 35. The ESU men have one point. All 14 PSAC teams are competing.
