ESU Track and Field in Bucknell Income Tax Classic
LEWISBURG - East Stroudsburg University's Quanette Jester soared a school-record 39-1 1/4 to win the triple jump at the Income Tax Track and Field Classic Saturday at Bucknell University.
She broke her own school mark of 38-9 1/2 set last season. The distance also surpassed the provisional qualifying standard of 38-0 3/4 for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 24-26 at SIU-Edwardsville.
The Warriors had one other winner in the 14-team meet with Shavanna Ross taking the high jump at 5-4. Jester was second, also at 5-4. Ross was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 63.84
One other ESU school record was broken with Danielle Centurione finishing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:53. Teammate Christel Hibbard was third in 11:55. Both runners bettered the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 12:00 in the event.
Also qualifying provisionally for the nationals was ESU's David Dean, who was second in javelin with a toss of 196-2. The NCAA standard is 195-0.
The Warriors' Mike Newhard was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.44. Placing third were Mark Stinson, long jump, 21-11 1/2; Doug Springer, pole vault, 15-0; Brad Fees, high jump, 6-6, and Jenn Grube, javelin, 124-5.
ESU was third in the women's team scoring with 88 points just ahead of Syracuse, 70, and behind Bucknell 215 and Lock Haven 134. In the men's team scoring, the Warriors were tied for fifth with 48 points. Bucknell was first with 209 followed by Lock Haven 140 and Syracuse 66.

Babbini Third, Kercher Seventh in Millersville Multi
MILLERSVILLE - East Stroudsburg University's Jackie Babbini placed third and Glenn Kercher seventh in the Millersville Multi which ended Saturday.
Babbini scored 3,982 points in the seven-event women's heptathlon. She led the seven-competitor field in the javelin throw with a toss of 116-4 and was second in the final 800-meter run in 2:29.28 and the 200-meter dash in 26.72.
Justina Barone of Lehigh won the event with 4,508 points with Marsha Krysiewski second with 4,281 points.
In the ten-event men's decathlon, Kercher scored 5,512 points. His best event was the long jump in which he leaped 21-11 3/4, second best among the 14 decathletes.
Todd Johnson of Lehigh placed first with 6,702 points with Matt Stinson of Lock Haven second with 6,356 and Chris Lambert of Lehigh third with 6,352.
