ESU Track and Field in Army Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Mark Stinson and Quanette Jester won events for East Stroudsburg University in the 45-team, 1,300-athlete Army Track and Field Invitational which ended late Saturday night.

Stinson top a field of 55 sprinters in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 22.4. He had almost a two/tenths of a second winning margin over runner-up Michael Ambinder of Yale, 22.59.

Jester captured the triple jump at 37-11 ½ and also tied for first in the high jump with Cheryl Drechsel of Manhattan and Alex Yalij of Montclair State at 5-4 ½.

The Warriors won the 4 x 400-meter women’s relay in 4:00.34 with a team of Jen Eye (60.6), Cheryl Griffin (60-8), Angela Gray (60.7) and Shavanna Ross (57.9).

Ross was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 63.99 while Griffin took second in the 200-meter dash in 25.05 and fifth in the 100 in 12.62.

ESU’s Jenn Grube, an All-America in the event, and Jackie Babbini placed second and third in the javelin with throws of 133-11 and 128-10, respectively.

Babbini, Jester, Eye and Griffin ran on a 4 x 100-meter relay team which finished third in 49.60.

The Warriors also placed in three men’s field events. Doug Springer and Brian Holcovic tied for second in the pole vault at 14-9; Glenn Kercher was third in the long jump at 21-10 ¼ and Mike Newhard and Brad Fees tied for fourth in the high jump at 6-5.

One ESU school record was set with Danielle Centurione establishing a mark in placing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase, a new women’s event, in 12:09.3.

ESU men’s teams also placed second in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:25.4 with a quartet of Andrew Morris (50-8), Dan Garibaldi (51.3), Glenn Kercher (51.8) and Jim Dawson (51.5) and sixth in the 4 x 100-meter relay in 43.83 with Stinson, Newhard, Morris and Nate Pendry running.
