EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University's Mark Stinson and Brad Fees leaped to meet record-breaking performances to win their specialties in the third annual Dick DeSchriver Indoor Track and Field Invitational in the Koehler Fieldhouse Saturday.

Stinson repeated as the long jump champion with a career-best leap of 23-0, bettering his own meet record of 22-3 1/4 set last season. The junior from Wescosville beat his twin brother, Matt Stinson of Lock Haven who was third at 22-4 1/2.

Fees, a junior from Pottsville, soared over the bar at 6-10, his career best, on his first attempt to win the high jump. He won on fewer misses over Chris Boyles of Messiah and teammate and defending champion Mike Newhard, who also cleared 6-10. The meet record had been 6-9 1/4 set by Newhard last year.

The ESU women won the 4 x 400-meter relay for the second straight year with a time of 4:03.32. Jackie Babbini led off with a 62.5 followed by Kristin Mullin 61.3 and Jen Eye 60.2 with Angela Gray bringing it home in 59.2. Eye and Gray had been members of the winning team last year.

Mullin, a junior from East Stroudsburg High School, also combined with Melissa Werner, Monica Schelling and Krystal Klugh on the winning 4 x 800-meter relay team which was timed in 10:39.28.

The Warriors won the 4 x 800 men's relay in 8:11.50 with a team of Matt Bevan (2:05.1), Jim Dawson (2:03.2), Rob Thomas (2:00.3) and Darryl Brown (2:02.8).

Other ESU top three finishers were pole vaulters Brian Holkovic, second at 13-6, and Bryan O'Neill, third at 13-0, and 4 x 200 men's relay of Stinson (22.9), Dan Garibaldi (23.1), John Van Soest (23.3) and Newhard (22.7) second in 1:32.14.

There were two double winner in the meet with Jim Fischer of Lafayette capturing the shot put and weight throw and Paul Hallman of Lock Haven first in the 1000 and mile.

Lafayette athletes captured nine events while Essex County College competitors won eight. Larissa Bellamy of Lafayette, a freshman from Stroudsburg High School, placed second in the shot put at 39-4 1/2 and fourth in the weight throw at 41-4.

Approximately 400 athletes from 27 schools competed.
