ESU Track and Field at West Chester
WEST CHESTER – Quanette Jester was a triple winner in the women’s meet while Mark Stinson and Brad Fees turned in the team’s top performances in the men’s meet as East Stroudsburg swept host West Chester and Cheyney in track and field competition Friday night.
The ESU women scored 166 points to beat West Chester, 86, and Cheyney, 36. The men’s finish was a closer with the Warriors scoring 169 points ahead of West Chester, 128, and Cheyney, 16.
Jester leaped to victory in all three jumping events. She traveled a season-best 16-10 in the long jump, went 37-3 in the triple jump and cleared 5-2 in the high jump.
Stinson turned in his best time ever in capturing the 200-meter dash in 22.2 and also won the 100 dash in 11.13. Fees soared the over bar at 6-9, his career best, to win the high jump.
The Warriors also had the fastest women’s sprinter in Angela Gray, who took the 100 in 13.08 and the 200 in 26.3.
ESU’s Jackie Babbini won the 400-meter hurdles in 66.39 and then upset her teammate, All-America Jenn Grube, to take the javelin with a throw of 123-4 ½. Grube still was a double winner with victories in the shot put, 34-9, and the discus, 115-6 ½.
Also turning in team season-best performances with victories in the women’s meet were Lindsay Foster, who cleared 8-2 in the pole vault; Heather Bjorndahl with a time of 2:26.88 in the 800 and Christel Hibbard at 18:56.1 in the 5,000.
Finishing first with team season-best marks in the men’s meet were Glenn Kercher in the triple jump at 43-8, Brian Bacher in the shot put, 44- 9 ½, and Brian Holcovic 400 hurdles, 59.2.
