ESU Track and Field in Bears' Den Invitational
KUTZTOWN - East Stroudsburg University's senior trio of Shavanna Ross, Cheryl Griffin and Quanette Jester all were winners in the Bears' Den Indoor Track and Field Invitational Friday night at Kutztown University.
Ross was a double winner in the high jump with a season-best leap of 5-6 1/2 and in the 500-meter dash at 1:19.45. Griffin sprinted to victory in the 200 in 25.63 and also tied Diana Lawson of Jersey City State for first in the 55-meter dash in 7.21, her best time of the season.
Jester, making her season debut, won the triple jump at 35-5. She also tied for the third in the high jump at 5-1 and was fourth in the long jump at 15-5.
The Warriors had two other individual winners - Mark Stinson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.20 and Mike Newhart in the high jump at 6-5.
ESU's 4 x 400-meter men's relay team of Dan Garibaldi (54.1), Andy Morris (51.7), Jim Dawson (53.5) and Mitch Carfora (52.7) took its event in 3:31.90.
Jen Eye was runner-up in the 200 in 26.99 and fourth in the 55 in 7.58. Doug Springer finished second in the pole vault at 14-6. Also placing second was the 4 x 400-meter women's relay team of Heather Bjorndahl (65.9), Melissa Werner (66.5), Monica Shelling (67.9) and Christel Hibbard (69.1) in a time of 4:29.60.
Jenn Grubb was third in both the shot put at 34-11 and the weight throw at 41-4.
Other third-place finishers were Mike Loesner in the 3,000 in 9:24.39 and Angela Gray in the 400 dash in 1:00.97. Brad Fees tied for third in the high jump at 6-3.

Fifth - Chris Barnes, weight throw, 41-4; Sharon Scott, 200, 27;45; Hibbard, 800, 2:31.35; Fees, triple jump, 39-10 1/4.
Sixth - Aaron Roderick, 1,000, 2:45.01; Carfora, 55 hurdles, 8.21; Shelling, 1000, 3:22.08; Dawson, 800, 2:02.72; Bacher, weight throw, 41-2.
ESU will play host to the annual Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 24-25 in the LeRoy J. Koehler Fieldhouse.
