ESU Track and Field/John Covert Classic at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM - East Stroudsburg University's Cheryl Griffin and Mike Newhard won events at the John Covert Indoor Track and Field Classic at Lehigh University Saturday.

Griffin sprinted to victory in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.09 and also was second in the 60-meter dash in 7.97. Newhard captured the high jump with a leap of 6-8.

The Warriors' 4 x 400-meter women's relay team placed second in 4:09.49 with a team of Jenn Eye, 62.7; Griffin, 61.6; Brooke Garman, 65.4, and Shavanna Ross, 59.7.

Ross placed second in the high jump at 5-2 and also was third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.53. Becky Fitz was runner-up in the triple jump at 35-5 1/4.
