ESU-Shippensburg Softball
SHIPPENSBURG – Nicole Brunt and Lindsey Williams pitched shutouts as Shippensburg swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader over East Stroudsburg University, 5-0 and 2-0, Monday.
Brunt tossed a two-hitter in the opener, allowing only singles by Jill Higgins in the third inning and Tina Morak in the sixth. Williams gave up four hits, two by ESU’s ‘Nifer Shaw, in the second game.
The Red Raiders quickly broke open the first contest with two runs in the first inning on Sandy Smith’s double and Hollie Stover’s single and two more in the second. with both coming across on Amy Baughman’s single.
Stover was 3-for-3 and Baughman 3-for-4 in the team’s 13-hit attack.
Williams and ESU’s Monica Sobolesky, who also tossed a four-hitter, hooked up a tight pitching dual in the second game. Shippensburg scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Alison Lee reached on an error and Baughman singled and the runs later came across on Smith’s single and Brenna Eck’s sacrifice fly.
The loss dropped the Warriors’ record back to the .500 level at 11-11 overall and 5-5 in the conference. The Red Raiders are now 18-16 overall and 6-4 in PSAC play.
