EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Lindsey Williams pitched 11 2/3 scoreless innings Saturday as Shippensburg swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader from East Stroudsburg 4-0 and 5-2 at Zimbar Field.
Williams threw a complete game in the opener, striking out five Warriors, while giving up six hits. Amy Baughman was the hitting star for the Red Raiders, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs an RBI and a stolen base. Katie Rowlands went 3-for-4 as well with one run, one RBI and one stolen base.
In the second game, Shippensburg (16-15, 6-4) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning behind four hits. Baughman singled with one out but was erased on a fielder's choice. Heather Bankert then singled, moving Katie Rowlands to second. Sandra Smith followed with a two-RBI triple and then scored on Andrea Heck's single.
ESU (10-10, 5-5) climbed to within 3-2 in the second. 'Nifer Shaw reached on an error and scored on Mary Beth Scotch's double. Scotch later scored on Aishling Stevens' single.
The Warriors were threatening again the third, with runners on first and second and only one out. But Williams entered in relief of Joanne Fegan and got the final two outs. ESU did have the tying run at the plate three times in the ninth but could not score, as Williams struck out two of the final three batters. Baughman once again provided the offense for the Raiders, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and a walk.
