ESU-West Chester Softball
EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshman Tina Morak gained both pitching victories, allowing no earned runs over 15 innings, and another freshman, Casey Dixon was the big hitter as East Stroudsburg University swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheaders over West Chester, 6-0 and 3-2 in eight innings, Wednesday.
Morak tossed a six-hit shutout in the opener and then came back and went eight innings in the second game, allowing only two unearned runs and eight hits.
Dixon scored the winning run in the second game as she led off the eighth inning with a triple and scored on an error on Jill Higgins' grounder. The ESU designated hitter hit a double and drove in a run in the opener and was 2 for 4 with one RBI in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Warriors (10-8, 5-3 PSAC) scored two runs in the first inning which was all they needed. Deana Geist led off with a single and rode home on Erika Lee's double. Lee then scored on a passed ball.
Tara Buckley reached on an error and came across on Dixon's double in the third. Three West Chester errors, combined with Tara Greig's single, accounted for three more runs in the fourth inning. Lee went 2 for 3.
In the second game, the Golden Rams (9-15, 0-4 PSAC) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but ESU came back with singles runs in the third and fourth. In the third, Buckley singled, took third on Lee's double and scored on Dixon's single. Doubles by Jill Higgins and Greig tied the game in the fourth.
