ESU-West Chester Softball
WEST CHESTER - Erika Lee's two-run double in the first game and 'Nifer Shaw's three-run homer in the second were the key hits as East Stroudsburg University swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader over West Chester, 6-4 and 4-1, Wednesday.
It was the first conference sweep for the Warriors after three straight splits. They are now 11-9 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC. West Chester dropped to 10-18 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
It didn't take long for the visiting ESU team to take charge in the first game with two runs in the first inning and four more in the second.
Deana Geist and Casey Dixon singled in the first and Lee doubled to right-center field to drive them home. In the second inning, Tara Greig, Tara Buckley and Dixon all slapped run-producing singles.
Pitcher Tina Morak allowed only two earned runs in evening her season record at 5-5. Dixon went 3-for-4 and Geist 2-for-4.
In the second game, ESU trailed, 1-0, entering the fourth inning. With one out, Lee and Mary Beth Scotch both singled and Shaw then belted a long drive over the leftfield fence for her second homer of the season.
The Warriors added a single run in the fifth inning on doubles by Greig and Lee.
Shaw was 2-for-3 and Geist and Lee both 2-for-4.
Monica Sobolesky tossed a six-hitter and didn't allow an earned run in earning her third win against a conference opponent. She is now 6-4.
