SB4-30

ESU-Mansfield Softball

MANSFIELD - Kelly Morris pitched a one-hit shutout in the first game and then Mansfield scored in every inning of the second game in sweeping East Stroudsburg University Sunday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader, 1-0 and 11-4.

The losses ended ESU's season with a 16-21-1 record, a vast improvement over last year's 5-31 mark. The Warriors were 7-16-1 in the conference. Mansfield is now 21-17 overall and 11-13 in PSAC play.

Morris allowed a leadoff single to Deana Geist in the first inning and then pitched no-hit ball the rest of the way. She struck out ten batters including fanning the side in order in the second and fifth innings. She walked two.

The Mounties scored their only run in a bizarre manner. In the third inning with the bases loaded, two outs and two strikes, Gwen Shade swung and missed on a wide pitch for a strikeout, but the ball rolled to the backstop while Rosie Pagana raced home from third base for the deciding run and Shade got to first safely.

In the second game, Mansfield scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and two in the third and kept sending runners across the plate all game. Eight different players scored runs and eight drove in runs. Shade and J. Ricker both went 3 for 4.

ESU's Geist was 2 for 4 with two runs-batted-in while Erika Lee also was 2 for 4.
