ESU-West Chester Softball

WEST CHESTER - Stacy Schellenger and Laura Themens hurled shutouts as West Chester defeated a road-weary East Stroudsburg University team, 2-0 and 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Wednesday.

It was the third away doubleheader in three days for the Warriors (14-19-1, 7-14-1 PSAC), who played a ten-inning game in a pair of losses at Millersville Monday night and then battled to a 16-inning tie after losing the first game at Shippensburg Tuesday.

Schellenger spun a four-hitter in the opener with ESU managing only four singles, two by Erika Lee and one apiece by Tara Greig and Tara Buckley.

ESU pitcher Tina Morak stretched her string of hitless innings to 10 2/3 before giving up a single by Christina Mitchell in the fourth inning. She had pitched no-hit ball for the last seven innings in the tie against Shippensburg.

The Golden Rams (13-27, 4-16 PSAC) scored both their runs in the sixth inning on Christina Mitchell's squeeze bunt and a single by Felicia Freimuth.

In the second game, Themens permitted only three hits, Wendy Witmer's double and singles by Casey Dixon and Sarah Kaplan. The Warriors could not score, however, and now have gone 21 innings without a run.

West Chester scored single runs in three different innings Angie Davis driving in the first with a single, the second scoring on a passed ball and third on Kristyn Baker's double.
