ESU-Kutztown Softball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Tara Buckley belted a bases-loaded, three-run double as East Stroudsburg University downed Kutztown, 6-4, in the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division softball doubleheader Monday.

The Golden Bears (10-9, 2-2 PSAC) took the opener, 6-2, as Kellie Evans pitched a five-hitter and Brianne Homyak went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Trailing 4-2 in the second game, the Warriors (9-9, 3-3 PSAC) loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning as Sarah Kaplan singled, Wendy Witmer reached on an error and Dean Geist was hit by pitch. Buckley, named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week Monday, then belted a shot into left-centerfield, her fifth double of the season, to clear the bases and put ESU ahead.

Monica Sobolesky pitched shutout ball for the final five innings to get the pitching win, her fifth against four defeats. Seven ESU players all had one hit apiece with Casey Dixon also hitting a run-producing double.

In the opener, Kutztown broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning with the big hit, Kim Murphy's two-run single. Back-to-back doubles by Evans and Courtney Memmo produced two more runs in the seventh inning.

Tara Greig had two of ESU's five hits.
