ESU-Kutztown Softball

KUTZTOWN - Kellie Evans pitched and batted Kutztown to a sweep over East Stroudsburg University, 8-0, 4-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Thursday.

Evans gained both pitching victories, tossing a one-hitter in the opener and allowing only two hits over the first five innings of the second game. She also was 3-for-6 at the plate with a triple and two singles and three runs-batted-in.

Tara Greig had ESU's only hit the opener, a single in the fourth inning. Kutztown scored two runs in the first inning on Kim Murphy's homer and six more runs in the second inning with Evans driving in three of them with a bases-loaded triple.

In the second game, the Warriors' only three hits were singles by Erika Lee and Tara Buckley, both in the second inning off Evans, and Deana Geist in the sixth off reliever Danielle Follosco.

The Golden Bears scored once in the second inning on Karli Hausman's single and another run in the third as Evans singled and came home on Courtney Memmo's double. They added two more runs in the fifth inning with singles by Evans and Memmo the only hits.

The Warriors, now 13-17 overall and 6-10 in the conference, will return to action today in a 3 p.m. home doubleheader against Millersville. Kutztown leads the PSAC Eastern Division with a 12-3 record and is 22-10 overall.
