ESU-Caldwell Softball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Casey Dixon went 5-for-7 with a triple and two doubles and Tina Morak pitched 12 1/3 shutout innings as East Stroudsburg University split a softball doubleheader against Caldwell College Thursday on Zimbar Field.

The Warriors won the opener, 4-0, as Morak pitched a three-hit shutout and Dixon was 3-for-3 with two runs-batted-in. The Cougars took the second game, 5-4, scoring all its runs in the first two innings before Morak relieved and blanked them the rest of the way.

In the first game, ESU scored two runs in the first inning. Deana Geist and Dana Parrish both were hit by pitches and eventually came across on Dixon's single and an attempted double steal in which one runner was tagged out at second base as the other scored.

The Warriors added two more runs in the sixth inning as Tara Greig and Dixon hit back-to-back doubles and Nifer Shaw followed with a single.

Morak was in command throughout in pitching her first shutout of the season. She struck out two batters and walked two.

In the second contest, Caldwell belted eight hits in the first two innings, all singles, in scoring its five runs. The Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the first as Dixon tripled in one run and scored on Tara Buckley's single. They added two more runs in the sixth on Jill Higgins' triple and Greig's single.

The split kept ESU at .500 at 13-13 overall. Caldwell is now 23-3.
