ESU-Millersville Softball

MILLERSVILLE – Tara Buckley singled in the winning run in the ninth inning as East Stroudsburg University trimmed Millersville, 4-3, in the second game for a split in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division softball doubleheader Sunday.

The Marauders took the opener, 3-2, scoring all three runs in the first inning to back Michelle Kuhn’s pitching.

With the score tied at 3-3, Jill Higgins led off the top of the ninth with a single and Deana Geist sacrificed her to second base. Buckley then drilled a single to right-centerfield, her third hit of the game, to bring Higgins home.

The Warriors scored their other three runs in the first inning as Geist singled and Buckley doubled for the first run. Casey Dixon then walked and Erika Lee hit a two-run single. Buckley was 3-for-4 and Lee 3-for-5 while Tina Morak gained the pitching win..

Millersville’s first-inning rally in the opener was highlighted by a double by Sabrina Atkins and a single by Alisha Mackenroth. Higgins went 2-for-3 for ESU.

It was the sixth split in eight doubleheaders for the Warriors, who are now 8-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference and will play at home against Kutztown today at 3 p.m. Millersville is now 11-6 overall and 1-1 inn PSAC play.
