SB3-22
ESU Softball
OSCEOLA, Fla. - Casey Dixon hit a two-run double and Mardelle Swoyer and Tina Morak combined on a six-hitter to lift East Stroudsburg University over Southern Connecticut, 3-1, in the first game of a Rebel Spring Games softball doubleheader Wednesday.
Augustana, S.D. downed ESU, 10-2, in a second game called after five innings because of a time limit.
After scoring an unearned run in the first inning, the Warriors (3-3) tallied twice in the third on two-out singles by Nifer Shaw and Erika Lee and Dixon's double to leftfield to go ahead, 3-0.
Southern scored once in the fifth on Kari Berg's double and Shannon Finley's single and threatened in the seventh putting runners second and third base with none out. Morak came in to relieve Swoyer and immediately got a double play on a flyout and rightfielder Tara Buckley's throw to catcher Lee to peg out a runner trying to tag up and score. She then got the game-ending out on a grounder.
Shaw went 2 for 2, Dixon 2 for 3 and Deana Geist and Lee both 2 for 4 for the Warriors, who have now split three straight doubleheaders.
In the second game, Augustana took advantage of four ESU errors to score five unearned runs in the third inning and take a 6-2 lead. The Vikings then tallied four more tuns in the fifth inning with Magan Faris driving in two with a triple. Winning pitcher Kelly Connolly allowed only two hits.
