ESU-Georgian Court Softball

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Tara Buckley hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give East Stroudsburg University a 3-1 second-game victory over Georgian Court and a split of their season-opening softball doubleheader Wednesday.

Georgian Court won the opener, 5-0, as pitcher Lauren Anderson struck out 14 batters.

With the score tied, 1-1, in the nightcap, Deana Geist led off the ESU fifth with a single and was sacrificed to second base. Buckley then crushed a pitch over the leftfield fence for her game-winning homer. The game was called after five innings because of darkness.

Freshman Monica Soboleski, making her collegiate debut, pitched a five-hitter, allowing only one unearned run for the victory. Geist went 2-for-3.

In the opener, Anderson, a Division I transfer and the daughter of the Georgian Court head coach, hurled a three-hit shutout and struck out batters in every inning.

Toni Williams led the team's attack with a homer, single and double in three at-bats. Lisa Hollis also had a double and a single.
