ESU-Bloomsburg Softball
BLOOMSBURG – Perennial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference softball power Bloomsburg opened its conference season Thursday by scoring a pair of 9-1 victories over East Stroudsburg University.
The Warriors (5-7) stayed close in the first game and tied the score, 1-1, in the third inning on singles by Nifer Shaw, Erika Lee and Casey Dixon.
Bloomsburg (21-4) went ahead with three runs in the fourth inning with Mylan Le hitting a triple Melanie Anderson a double and then wrapped up the win with five runs in the sixth inning with the big hit, Erica Miller’s two-run double.
Kerri Cooper gained the pitching victory, allowing eight hits while striking out four batters and walking none. Tina Morak and Tara Greig each were 2 for 3 for ESU.
In the second game, the Huskies scored seven runs in the first three innings and again ended the game in the sixth. Vanessa Sterner went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple and three runs batted in while Miller was 3 for 4 with a triple.
Julie Undercuffler limited the Warriors to five hits and had six strikeouts and no walks. Tara Buckley was 2 for 3 for ESU.
