ESU-Mary Washington Baseball

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Tadgh LaBar hit a grand-slam inside-the-park home run and Mike Zimorowicz gained his second pitching victory as East Stroudsburg University defeated Mary Washington, 9-2, in baseball Saturday.

Behind 2-1, the Warriors loaded the bases in the fourth inning on Steve Harris' single and a pair of walks. LaBar then belted a shot to deep leftfield and when Gib Montgomery slammed into the fence and knocked himself out trying for the catch, the ball rolled free and LaBar and the other three base-runners all came around to score.

ESU padded the lead with four more runs in the eighth inning with Anthony Piazza driving in two with a single and the other two scoring on an error on Brett Reynolds' bases-loaded flyball.

Zimorowicz pitched seven innings, giving up single runs in the first and second innings and then hurling two-hit shutout ball the rest of the way. He struck out seven batters and walked one in raising his record to 2-0. Gordy Kocher finished up and struck out four batters while allowing only one hit over the last two innings.

Harris went 3-for-5, Ryan Conrad 2-for-2 and LaBar, Reynolds and Harmic all 2-for-4 for the Warriors. Harmic hit a double and a triple.

The Warriors, 3-1, will travel to Takoma Park, Md. today to play Columbia Union in a 12 noon doubleheader. Mary Washington is now 12-3.
