ESU-NYU Men's Volleyball
NEW YORK, N.Y. - East Stroudsburg University finally won a five-game volleyball match Wednesday night.
The Warriors upset New York University, 26-30, 30-24, 29-31, 30-26, 15-9, in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division contest. The team had played five previous five-game matches this season, losing all of them.
Seniors Jason Hartzel and Tom Shaver took charge in the fifth game as ESU took an early lead and held it the rest of the way. Hartzel finished with 16 kills, 22 digs and five blocks. Shaver had the best hitting average at .417 on 13 kills in 24 attempts and only three errors.
Also contributing to the victory were Dustin Wood, 14 kills and 12 digs, Chris James 46 assists and Jarrett Merkel six blocks.
The Warriors evened their overall record at 8-8 and improved their EIVA mark to 5-6. NYU is now 8-3 in the league and 12-11 overall.
