ESU-St. Francis, Pa. Men's Volleyball
EAST STROUDSBURG - Adam Tebbe, a 6-7 middle hitter, took charge in the last game to lift St. Francis, Pa. over East Stroudsburg University, 28-30, 30-27, 30-22, 19-30, 15-9, in an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division match Friday night.
Tebbe spiked for five points in the fifth game as the Red Flash took over first place in the division with a 5-1 record, a half game ahead of New York University, which is 4-1.
The Warriors, now 3-3 in the conference and 5-4 overall, had roared back to tie the match a one-sided victory in the fourth game. Jason Hartzel had five of his match-high total of 18 kills and Brian Harvey, playing his first game as a setter, made 14 assists.
St. Francis, 11-5 overall, regained the momentum in the fifth game, however, scoring the first two points and taking an 8-3 lead. ESU crept back within two points at 10-8 before the Red Flash went on a 5-1 run to finish it off on Matt Farabaugh's block.
Dustin Wood had 14 kills for ESU with Tom Shaver next with 11. Jarrett Merkel, Shaver and Hartzel all had five blocks. Wood and Hartzel both made 15 digs.
The Warriors will be at home again today for a 3 p.m. match against Queens College.
