Men's Soccer - ESU 0, New Hampshire 0 (2 OT)
MANCHESTER, N.H. - East Stroudsburg University and New Hampshire College, both teams ranked in the top 20 in the NCAA Division II pre-season men's soccer poll, battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie Sunday in the New Hampshire Kickoff Tournament.
The Warriors, ranked 16th in the nation, are now 1-0-1 and will play at Centenary, N.J. Thursday before the home opener against Felician Saturday. New Hampshire, 13th in the nation, also is now 1-0-1.
ESU goalie Jason Land kept the game scoreless with a pair of exceptional saves. In the second half, the Penmen's Richard Walker took a point blank shot off a rebound on which Land makes a diving last-second stop. Then later in the half, Ryan Fay chipped a shot from 25 yards out which was heading into the nets, but Land tipped the ball over the crossbar. He finished with seven saves.
The Warriors' best opportunities came on two shots by Tom Mustac in regulation and breakaway shot by Kurt Nusshag, which went wide, in the second overtime.
Both teams took 13 shots although the Warriors had a 5-1 advantage in overtime as ESU Coach Jerry Sheska had substituted more during the game and appeared to have fresher players on the field. New Hampshire goalie Tobias Svantesson made four saves.
