ESU-Dowling Men's Soccer
OAKLAND, N.Y. - Georges Haba drilled in a shot from 30 yards out for the game's only goals as Dowling College defeated East Stroudsburg University, 1-0, in a battle between nationally-ranked men's soccer teams Wednesday.
With 2:30 gone in the second half, Haba, a junior from West Africa, dribbled the ball down the left side and with the wind at his back, fired a shot over the head of goalie Jason Land into the upper right corner.
It was a defensive struggle with only ten shots taken, seven for Dowling and three for ESU. Goalie Mervin Shade made three saves in posting his third shutout of the season. Land had six saves.
The Warriors, ranked eighth in this week's NCAA Division II national poll, dropped to 7-2-1. The Lions, 17th in the nation, are now 8-1.
