ESU-West Chester Men's Soccer

WEST CHESTER - West Chester handed East Stroudsburg University its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's soccer loss in three years Wednesday, shocking the Warriors, 2-1, in a season-opening conference game for both teams.

The ESU booters had won 19 straight regular-season PSAC games since bowing to Lock Haven during the 1998 season. They also had a string of 22 straight wins against conference opponents broken which included three victories in the PSAC championship games.

Ryan Sekkes scored both goals for the Golden Rams. He headed in the first goal off a rebound on Jeremy Miller's shot off the post with 18:40 gone in the game. He then converted a penalty kick with 9:43 left in the first half to give his team a 2-0 edge.

ESU scored its lone goal with three seconds remaining in the half as the ball bounced off a West Chester defender into the nets. Kamar Samuels received credit for goal.

It was West Chester's first win over ESU since 1994. The Warriors had beaten the Rams eight straight times. The Golden Rams are now 3-2 overall.

The loss also left the Warriors with a 3-2 overall record. They will open their home season this weekend in the 15th annual Kiwanis-ESU Soccer Classic at Eiler-Martin Stadium. They will meet Bridgeport Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Concordia Sunday at 3:30.
