ESU-Bloomfield College Men's Soccer

East Stroudsburg, PA--East Stroudsburg University captured its fourth straight Kiwanis-ESU Soccer Classic championship, winning the Howard DeNike trophy, with a 9-0 victory over Bloomfield College Sunday at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The 9-0 victory was tied for the most lopsided margin of victory in 14-year tournament history. In 1999, East Stroudsburg defeated Dominican College 10-1.

The Warriors' Tom Mustac scored two goals and won the John Eiler Award as the tournament's outstanding offensive player. The junior from West Milford, N.J. also had scored a goal in the team's 3-0 tourney win over LIU-Southampton Saturday.

ESU goalie Jason Land captured the John McKeon Award as the tourney's top defensive player. The junior from Carney's Point, N.J. posted the shut out over LIU-Southampton, making nine saves. He did not play Sunday.

Mustac, Erik Buksa, and Joe Piscopo each scored in the first half against Bloomfield. . Mustac put ESU on the scoreboard 10:12 into the game when he dribbled past three defenders and beat the Bloomfield keeper to the far post. Buksa netted the Warriors' second goal when he slotted home a near-post shot following a cross from Jason Cropper. Piscopo added a goal with less than a minute remaining in the first half on a break-away goal receiving a lofted pass up and over the defense from Karl Nusshag.

ESU then rattled off six goals in the second half. Mustac again started the scoring when he took a defensive clear out of the air and blasted it into the net in the 54th minute. Cropper followed a minute later after another Nusshag assist.

The Warriors' scoring then took a break until the 64th minute when Troy Grubb connected off of a direct kick, bending the ball around the defensive wall to beat the keeper to the far-post to put ESU ahead, 6-0. Brandon Smith, Dominic Sciurba and Brad Konawalik added goals in the final 21 minutes with Jorge Chapoy, Jim McWIlliams and Chris Pinto getting assists.

Goalie Conor Fry posted the shut out making two saves, including stopped a Bloomfield penalty shot in the first half. The Deacons' keeper Juan Fernadez made 14 saves.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday when they will travel to C.W. Post for a 4 p.m. game.
