ESU 3, New Haven 1
EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Pat Stanco scored the first goal and was named the tournament's outstanding offensive player as the Warriors beat the University of New Haven, 3-1, in the championship game of the 13th Kiwanis-ESU Soccer Classic Sunday.
Stanco had scored two goals in ESU's 10-1 semi-final round win over Dominican. Freshman Sean Stewart, the Warriors' sweeper back, was chosen as the tourney's outstanding defensive player.
It was the third straight Kiwanis title for the Warriors, who raised their season's record to 4-1.
Stanco slid in a shot to the right side of the nets after a cross from Channing Swears to put ESU ahead for keeps 12:24 into the game.
Karl Nusshag made it, 2-0, at the 21:58 mark as he booted the ball into the lower right corner following a throw-in by Isaac Fournier.
Swears gave the team an insurance goal 7:19 gone in the second half, scoring after a scramble in front of the goal.
New Haven got on the scoreboard with 19:53 left as Sahar
Rostami drilled a shot which deflected off an ESU defender into the nets.
The Warriors had a 10-9 edge in shots. ESU goalie Conor Fry made eight saves compared to Emil Susanj's seven saves for the Chargers.
