ESU-St. Rose Men's Soccer
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - St. Rose shocked East Stroudsburg University, 2-0, in the first round of the Dominican College Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday
The Golden Knights, only 4-12-1 last season, scored two second-half goals for the victory. Mark Woodrow connected off a pass from Eli Napolitano with 28 minutes left and then Napolitano added an unassisted goal with six minutes remaining.
The Warriors, 18-3-2 and an NCAA semi-finalist last year, had a 13-4 edge in shots, but couldn't get one past goalie Tim Busch, who made nine saves. ESU is playing without its two starting forwards, Jorge Chapoy and Tom Mustac, both sidelined by injuries.
St. Rose will now play host Dominican for the championship today at 2 p.m. while ESU faces St. Thomas Aquinas in a consolation game at 12 noon.
The first-round pairings had to be changed at the last minute because St. Thomas Aquinas arrived late for a scheduled meeting against ESU and officials decided to send the Warriors against St. Rose..
