ESU-Lock Haven Men's Soccer

ESU 4, Lock Haven 1

LOCK HAVEN - Pat Stanco keeps scoring and the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team keeps winning.

Stanco scored a 'hat trick,' including two goals within eight minutes late in the game to power the Warriors to a 4-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Lock Haven Wednesday.

The senior forward now has scored nine goals in the team's last five games and has a season total of 12 goals.

The win was the fifth straight for the ESU booters, tied for 16th in this week's NCAA Division II national poll. They are now 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

It was the Warriors' first regular-season win over Lock Haven in five years since a 4-1 win in 1994. It has been a different story in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship games, however, in which ESU has beaten the Bald Eagles five straight times with the last meeting in 1997.

Stanco scored the only goal of the first half unassisted in the 33rd minute. Lock Haven tied the game in the 68th minute on Morten Brorby's penalty kick.

Then the Warriors put it away with two goals by Stanco in the 72nd and 80th minutes following crosses from Tony Wilson and Jorge Chapoy. Channing Swears converted a penalty kick for an insurance goal with four minutes left.

ESU had a 15-6 edge in shots. The Warriors' goalie, Conor Fry, a transfer from Lock Haven, made three saves. It was an intense, physical contest with nine yellow cards given.

The Bald Eagles dropped to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.
