ESU-Shippensburg Men’s Soccer

SHIPPENSBURG – Brad Konawalik scored a goal with 3:44 left in a first overtime period to give East Stroudsburg University a 1-0 men’s soccer victory over Shippensburg Sunday.

With the win, the Warriors finished second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference regular-season race with a 5-2-1 record. They will play host to third-place West Chester, 5-3, in the conference semi-finals Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The winner will advance to the championship game at regular-season winner California, 5-1-2, Saturday at 1 p.m. ESU has won the conference title the last four years and eight of the last nine years.

Tom Mustac assisted on the winning goal as he touched a pass to Konawalik, who lofted a shot which deflected off a Shippensburg defender into the left side of the nets. It was the second goal of the season for the senior from Pleasant Valley High School.

Jason Land made five saves to post the shutout, his seventh. ESU finished the regular season with a 14-4-1 record. Shippensburg wound up 9-9-1 overall and 2-6 in PSAC play.
