ESU-Shippensburg Men's Soccer
EAST STROUDSBURG - Jorge Chapoy put the super in East Stroudsburg University's Super Soccer Sunday as his 'hat trick' carried the Warriors to a 6-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Shippensburg.
With the win, ESU clinched the PSAC regular-season title with a 7-0 record and will play host to the conference championship game Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Lock Haven and California will meet in the semi-finals Nov. 1 with the winner to play the Warriors.
A crowd of approximately 750 fans was on hand to enjoy the Super Soccer Sunday festivities organized by the ESU Sport Management Club. Between the announcements of giveaways and prizes, Chapoy got his name called twice in the first half and once in the second for scoring goals.
The sophomore from Montclova, Mexico put the first two goals of the game on the board off passes from Tom Mustac and Chris Pinto. He then made a spectacular third goal early in the second half, diving at a ball crossed by Troy Grubb, and heading it just inside the post.
It was Chapoy's second 'hat trick' of the season. He had scored four goals in a win over Molloy earlier in the season. He now has a season total of 17 goals and eight assists.
Mustac, Ahmet Kose and Mike Lotocki added goals for Coach Jerry Sheska's team with Grubb making a second assist and Jason Cropper also getting an assist.
Shippensburg only had one shot and Ryan McFadden's made it count for the Raiders' goal. ESU goalie Conor Fry didn't have make a single save.
The Warriors are now 14-2-1 overall and will close their regular season with two away games this week at Bloomsburg Wednesday and New York Tech Saturday.
