ESU-West Chester Men's Soccer
WEST CHESTER - Ahmet Kose scored the winning goal with 2:44 gone in overtime as East Stroudsburg University won its ninth straight men's soccer game by beating West Chester, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest Wednesday.
The Warriors raised their overall record to 14-2 and remained unbeaten in the conference at 6-0. They are 18th in this week's NCAA Division II national poll and will play host to ninth-ranked Dowling Saturday at 1 p.m.
John Sunshine set up the goal as he stripped the ball from a West Chester defender and dribbled down to the end line on the right side. He then crossed a pass to Kose, who drilled a shot into the right corner of the nets from 18 yards out on the left side.
ESU used its top scoring combination of Pat Stanco (17 goals) and Jorge Chapoy (ten assists) to take a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Chapoy beat a defender on the right side and pushed a pass in front to Stanco, who connected for a goal for the ninth straight game.
West Chester tied the score in the second half on Thatcher Book's penalty kick.
With the win, the ESU booters clinched at least a PSAC playoff berth. They need only one win in their final two games, at home against Bloomsburg Oct. 27 and Millersville Oct. 31, to become the host for the PSAC championship game Nov. 7.
The Golden Rams fell to 7-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in PSAC play.
