EAST STROUDSBURG - Pat Stanco and Ahmet Kose each scored two goals as East Stroudsburg University won its seventh straight men's soccer game by beating Mercy, 5-0, Tuesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors, ranked 17th in this week's NCAA Division II national poll, improved to
12-2 while Mercy fell to 5-5.
Stanco, this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Soccer Player of the Week, extended his scoring streak to seven straight games and upped his season total to 15 goals. Kose has six goals.
Jorge Chapoy and Tony Wilson each had two assists with Chapoy increasing his team-high assist total to nine.
Kose opened scoring after only five minutes on what appeared to be a cross from the right side. The ball bounced off the upper left post and caromed into the right side of the nets.
Ahead 1-0 at halftime, the Warriors broke it open with three goals within a five-minute period early in the second half. Chapoy set up the first two with passes from the right side with Kose and Stanco connecting. Wilson then brought the ball down the center and fed a through-pass to Stanco to up the lead to 4-0 with 38 minutes still remaining.
ESU Coach Jerry Sheska then cleared his bench and reserve Brandon Smith scored in the 74th minute after a pass from Wilson.
Goalies Conor Fry and Jason Land combined for the shutout with Fry working the first 54 minutes and making two saves and Land the last 36 minutes with one save.
