ESU-Binghamton Men’s Basketball

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Guard Nitai Spiro scored 21 points and guard Michael Wright and forward Jeff St. Fort added 17 points apiece as Binghamton University defeated East Stroudsburg University, 86-73, in men’s basketball Monday night.

The win raised the Bearcats’ record to 13-11 while ESU dropped to 6-18. The Warriors have two games remaining at West Chester Wednesday and at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday.

ESU led, 57-56, with 9:42 remaining when leading scorer Shahad Abdur Rahkman fouled out, his earliest exit of the season. Rahkman, who was averaging 19 points per game, played only 24 minutes and was held under double figures for the first time with seven points.

Binghamton then went on a 11-2 run with Spiro hitting a three-pointer for the go-ahead basket at 62-59. St. Fort followed with a jam, Spiro sank two free throws and Andre Verkey sank one free throw to make it, 67-59 with 6:14 remaining.

Although ESU’s R.C. Kehoe popped in two of his game total of six three-pointers, ESU never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Kehoe finished with 22 points while Rob Smith added 13 and Juwan Justice 12. The Warriors fired 38 three-point attempts, making 13 for 34 percent. They were 25 for 71 from the floor overall for 35 percent compared to Binghamton’s 28 for 58 for 48 percent.
