ESU-West Chester Men's Basketball
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Forwards Juwan Justice and Shahad Abdur-Rahkman were the game's top two scorers, but East Stroudsburg University dropped a season-ending 79-66 men's basketball game to West Chester Wednesday night.
Justice tallied 22 points , scoring almost all his points on strong moves inside. He was 8 for 18 from the floor, but only one of nine on 3-pointers. He lifted his three-year career total to 979 points and should become a member of the school's 1,000-point club early next season.
Rahkman had his first double-double of the season with 21 points, his most in any game since December, and a season-high 13 rebounds. He drove hard to the hoop for eight baskets in 14 tries and also sank all five of his free throws. He now has 824 points in two seasons and also is expected to reach 1,000 points next year.
The scoring of the Warriors' two big guns wasn't enough, however, as West Chester used sharp passing and better 3-point shooting for the victory. The Golden Rams dropped nine of 21 3-pointers compared to ESU's 3 for 22 mark from behind the arc. They also had 16 assists while the Warriors only had seven.
Tyariq Corbin led West Chester with 20 points while Robert Williams and Joe Meade added 15 points apiece and Ramzee Stanton 12. Stanton also grabbed 13 rebounds while Meade fed off eight assists.
The Rams took the lead, 21-19, on Matt Brown's driving layup with 7:12 left in the half. The halftime difference was five points at 35-30.
In the second half, Corbin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to trigger a 12-4 run which opened the gap to 13 points at 47-34. ESU never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The Warriors ended their season with an 11-15 record, including a 4-8 PSAC mark.
